The commemorative 2 euro coin was issued to mark the 50th anniversary of the Luxembourg flag. The two-part design features the portrait of Grand Duke Henri and the three-striped Luxembourg flag. Above the flag is the year ‘1972’, below it the year of issue ‘2022’, as well as the State of issue ‘LËTZEBUERG’. The twelve stars of the European flag are shown on the outer ring of the coin.
