The British Musical Legends series celebrates Britain's most famous music legends. The third programme is devoted to David Bowie, an icon of pop history. Born David Robert Jones on 8 January 1947, David Bowie grew up in rather modest circumstances. After initial unsuccessful attempts at music, the 1969 song "Space Oddity" brought him to the public's attention for the first time - and in 1972 he finally broke through. With around 140 million records sold, David Bowie is one of the most influential artists of our time. The exceptional British musician has polarised like no other, and is best known for the incarnation of his alter ego "Ziggy Stardust". In addition to "Space Oddity", his greatest hits include "Sound and Vision", "Let's Dance", "Life on Mars?" and the so-called Berlin trilogy "Heroes", "Low" and "Lodger". On 10 January 2016 - two days after his 69th birthday and the release of the album "Blackstar" - David Bowie succumbed to cancer.

The design features a portrait of David Bowie against a backdrop of a lightning bolt from the Aladdin Sane era. The design also features numerous stars and the word "BOWIE" - his trademark.
