The special issue of the World Money Fair Berlin 2021 is dedicated to the colourful inhabitants of Australia - the parrots. The Australian Parrots coin was minted with 5 ounces of 999.99‰ silver and depicts a large salmon-coloured cockatoo with its characteristic bonnet in the foreground. It is surrounded by smaller species of parrot, also depicted in colour, perched on branches or in tree cavities. Other birds in flight have been engraved in the background. The reverse shows a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, as well as the weight, fineness, denomination and year of issue. To date, 53 species of parrot are known to have originated in Australia. Parrots are as intelligent as corvids. For example, they can mimic our language, "eat with their hands in a civilised manner", and are exceptionally lively and sociable animals. While for these reasons it seems understandable that parrots like to be kept in cages as pets, the animals belong in their natural, species-appropriate habitat - the native rainforests or savannahs - as this coin shows. The 5-ounce silver coin, in full colour, comes in its original wooden box, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
