In 2019, the Austrian Mint will issue a series of 3 commemorative coins to mark the 825th anniversary of the first mintage in Vienna. The three 99.9% silver anniversary ounces tell the story of the founding myth of the "Münze Wien", the Vienna Mint. This first issue of the three anniversary ounces is dedicated to Leopold V. In 1191, he came to dispute the spoils between two crusaders, Leopold V and the English king Richard I Lionheart. On his return to England, Richard was arrested in December 1192 and ransomed. The English paid a large amount of silver, from which Leopold founded the Wiener Neustadt and Vienna's first mint. This special Leopold V. silver coin is presented in a sealed coincard, making your collection an exciting journey through the ancient history of Europe.
